Pregnancy & Prenatal Care

Weeks 1-12: First trimester

Frequent issues include:

  • Nausea, morning sickness

  • Mood swings

  • Heartburn or acid reflux

  • Stress and anxiety - which often peaks here

During this time, your egg will grow from a tiny ball of cells into a grapefruit sized fetus that’s sprouted most of its major organs. It’s extra important to eat healthy food, avoid toxins, and keep your immune system in good shape.

Weeks 13-27: Second trimester

Issues that can be relieved with acupuncture:

  • Backaches

  • Fatigue

  • Constipation

  • Swelling of the ankles and feet

During this time, your fetus is growing a lot - and taking more of your energy, literally! You’ll start noticing movement and may notice when your baby is sleeping. It’s best to take extra care of yourself here, as you may want to start slowing down, eating more, and preparing for the next phase.

Week 28-Birth: Third trimester

The organs keep maturing as your baby prepares to live outside the womb. You’ll feel a lot of movement, and probably some discomfort, as you get toward your due date. The head should be positioning downward - but if it doesn’t, TCM can help. Acupuncture has been shown to support the health of your pregnancy during those extra crucial weeks and days before labor, and can even aid with a smooth delivery. Other common health concerns that are treatable with TCM include:

  • Edema

  • Hip Pain

  • Low Back Pain

  • Heartburn, or acid reflux
